When I originally set out to create the artwork that is now Evocative-Art.com, I did not have the intention of bringing them ‘public’. In my ‘real life’ I am a portrait painter and when work slowed I began a series of drawings that is now Evocative-Art.com. For me, this began as more of an exercise, as any athlete has to do to stay in shape in the off season. Looking for subject matter, I trawled the Internet finding pictures of attractive people, both men and women. As far as I know, every subject from every piece of reference material used here was over 18 years of age. Regarding the drawings of the women on the home page, I started looking for photos with the subect having a wide smile because they are the most difficult to draw and look natural, but as I continued, I looked more for expressions of ennui or a certain ineffable kind of melancholy that would be challenging to successfully execute in a drawing. This drawing exercise was created to keep me sharp for future portrait commissions, so any likeness to an actual person is probably true. If anyone sees their likeness here and takes issue, please contact me and I will remove it. |
